Expert Rug Care Advice

Keep your rug beautiful for generations.

With proper care, a good quality rug needs little maintenance and lasts a lifetime. Here's what our experts recommend.

General rug care

6 rules for a long-lasting rug.

Simple habits that protect your investment.

Vacuum frequently

Regular vacuuming keeps dirt out of the pile. On rugs with fringe, avoid using the beater bar on the fringe, it causes damage over time.

Avoid harsh chemicals

Harsh chemicals can alter colors and react with wool dyes. Worse, they can set stains permanently, making them nearly impossible to remove.

Professional cleaning every 3-5 years

A good wool rug needs professional cleaning every 3-5 years to stay dusted, prevent cracking and keep the wool bright. High-traffic rooms may need it sooner.

Don't worry about sprouting

Sprouting is normal in new wool rugs. Snip them, don't pull. After the first professional wash, the sprouts come up and resolve on their own.

Rotate regularly

Rotate your rug every 6-12 months for even wear and sun exposure, so one side doesn't fade or wear faster.

Use a quality rug pad

A good pad prevents slipping, reduces wear on the backing and adds cushion. We cut high-quality pads to your exact size.
